Bookmark this Posting Print Preview | Apply for this Job Position Details Position Information Position Title Adult Basic Skills Substitute (Part Time, Temporary Hourly, Non-Benefited) Classification Title Temporary PT Hourly Hourly rate, Stipend, or Load Unit $35/hour Close Date Open Until Filled Yes Open Until Filled Notes Open For 2025-2026 Academic Year Position Type/Employee Class Temporary PT Hourly Instructor Status Not applicable Overtime Eligible Non-Exempt FLSA Status Campus Location Bend Primary Purpose Under the direction of the instructor of record, to provide instruction either in English Language Learning ( ELL ) to speakers of other languages or in reading, mathematics, social studies, and science to build skills and to prepare to take General Educational Development Test ( GED ). Part-time (substitute) instructor's direct student discussion and evaluate student performance in the classroom. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide instruction in area of discipline, using instructor-provided materials. This includes lecturing and guiding in classroom activities, providing individual conference time to guide and evaluate student progress. Teaching assignments may include courses taught during the day and/or evening, classes taught on or off campus. Maintain and complete student attendance. If applicable, the instructor supervises volunteer tutors in the classroom. Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to each location, as assigned. Department Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies. Thorough knowledge in the field of Adult Basic Skills. Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics. Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations. Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer controlled mixed media presentations. Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials. Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services. Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature. Ability to work with Adult Basic Skills faculty and other COCC staffs at all levels. Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
