Workplace Adult Education Project Director RI Institute for Labor Studies & Research Cranston, RI Job Details Full-time $62,000 - $65,000 a year 10 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off 401(k) matching Professional development assistance Life insurance Retirement plan Qualifications Google Workspace Budget management Teamwork Fiscal management Grant management Collaboration Grant submission Working with students Education and development budget management Time management Full Job Description Overview The Institute for Labor Studies & Research provides education and training that enables working Rhode Islanders and the labor movement to have a stronger voice in the workplace, to participate more effectively in Rhode Island's changing economy, and to create a more just and equitable society. ILSR seeks a Director to run its English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program. This program serves over 250 Rhode Islanders annually, integrating English language curriculum with practical skills and progression toward improved outcomes for students to thrive at work and in their communities. Candidates must have experience in grant management and budget management, supportive leadership in the workplace, and commitment to ILSR's mission. This position is represented by Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 25 and is subject to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement with the RI Institute for Labor Studies and Research (ILSR). Responsibilities
  • Administer and oversee all aspects of the ESOL program, including planning, implementation, operations, and evaluation.
  • In collaboration with the ILSR Executive Director, coordinate program personnel, including classroom instructors and part-time program support staff.
  • With support from the ESOL Enrollment Coordinator, manage and coordinate all ESOL classes across multiple instructional sites, including community-based, virtual, and employer/worksite settings.
  • Organize and facilitate virtual and in-person staff meetings, and program planning sessions.
  • Work with instructors to evaluate and improve curriculum, ensuring positive experiences and outcomes for students.
  • Update program policies in response to data, and student/staff feedback.
  • Work with program support staff to provide instructors with materials including technology as needed.
  • Manage program grant applications and fulfill grant reporting requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the ESOL Program with state agencies and other funders.
  • Collaborate with ILSR staff and program directors to integrate the ESOL Program with other ILSR programs.
  • Collaborate with established partners and develop new community partnerships to improve the quality and scope of the
ILSR ESOL
program and to better serve Rhode Islanders seeking greater opportunities.
  • Participate in ILSR organizational meetings and events. Qualifications
  • Excellent active listening, presentation, interpersonal and de-escalation skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and strengthen teamwork in achieving program objectives.
  • Ability to multitask and demonstrate flexibility as necessary.
  • Effective writing skills.
  • 3- 5 years of experience working in Adult Education or Workforce Development.
  • Familiarity with serving diverse, multicultural populations.
  • Organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to identify problems or areas of improvement and develop creative solutions.
  • Proficiency in using online video conference platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively - with a strong team spirit - in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
