Summary :
This is a part-time teaching position that supports the Academy Coordinator. The incumbent will teach or assist in teaching blocks of instruction within the Basic Peace Officer & Extended Basic Peace Officer Courses and/or scheduled In-Service courses for current peace officers when there is a demand by student needs or law enforcement agencies within the service area. This job is an important part of the department to reach students in all area and various times as required by course scheduling.
Education and Experience :
A high school diploma or GED; Hold a Peace Officer Certificate and Instructor's Certificate issued by TCOLEanda combination of education, training and experience in the specific area of instruction in the following:

TCOLE basic and advanced instructor courses, Intermediate Use of Force, Intermediate Crime Scene,Firearms Instructorcourse, Patrol Rifle Instructor course, and De-escalation Techniques.

Prefer direct experience in law enforcement; Certified (DPS, FBI, etc.) Firearms, Emergency Vehicle Operation Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, or other related certifications relative to specific subject matter;
Knowledge Skills and Ability :
Previous teaching experience in the Basic Peace Officer Course or Academy In-Service courses, and/or employing law enforcement agency recommendation Ability to communicate instructional materials and deliver classroom instruction and/or practical demonstration of high quality; Knowledge of Texas Laws (Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Family Code, Transportation Code, etc.), and police procedures in the specific subject matter required in the course. Ability to perform required demonstrations and activities in blocks of instruction that necessitate high levels of physical exertion (e.g., Physical Conditioning, Firearms, Mechanics of Arrest, Patrol Procedures, Police Vehicle Operation and Criminal Investigation or special In-Service courses)
Essential Functions:
Teach or assist in teaching blocks of instruction or In-Service courses according to the required TCOLE lesson plan and/or curriculum guide; Coach, evaluate student performance, and act as role players in the practical demonstration of skills by students; Develop and maintain subject matter expertise by outside reading and research; Develop or revise course lesson plans; Prepare lessons plans and have them on file with the Academy Coordinator; Prepare/submit required reports on time; Inform the Academy Coordinator of equipment, tools and supplies needed; Attend instructor meetings as required; Ensure a safe environment exists which will protect persons and staff from injury and college property from damage
