This position supports the missions and operations of the Orange County Boy Scouts of America and the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. The mission of The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center is to serve all youth of Orange County by providing quality outdoor educational programs that instill in them an appreciation of the outdoors and the environment, teach effective teamwork, instruct about the cultural history of Orange County, and provide access to the natural resources of the surrounding areas.REQUIREMENTS
Minimum age requirement is 21 Four-year degree in horticulture, botany, agriculture, biology, agronomy, or related field, or equivalent relevant work experience highly preferred Knowledge and experience in organic growing practices & soil regeneration Able to create and follow crop plans. Able to work outdoors for most of the day doing physically demanding tasks. Maintain certification in Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED Highly desired: BilingualJOB DUTIES
Responsible for supervising, overseeing, and maintaining fruit orchard and garden, beehives, chickens, and all associated classes, lessons, activities, training, and curriculum. Perform regular maintenance and manual labor including planting, thinning, pruning, irrigation/watering, fertilizing, propagating, weeding, soil amending, mulching, Integrated Pest Management, etc. with consideration for wildlife and guests Safely use tools and machinery such as trimmers, saws, loppers, etc. as needed Lead volunteers and staff to manage fuels and mitigate fire danger Must be able to spend most work hours outdoors in the orchard, garden, and other ranch areas doing physically demanding tasks such as invasive plant removal. Teach outdoor life science programs to guests, Scouts, and school groups during Outdoor Science School and other ranch and life science programs. Collaborate with developing and implementing new programs and activities. Support the overall operations of the Orange County Boy Scouts of America. Demonstrate proficient knowledge and implementation of OCBSA safety standards and regulations in accordance with American Red Cross, BSA National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP), American Camp Association (ACA), Orange County Agricultural Services division, Orange County Fire Authority, and best industry practices. Must be able to maintain physical abilities to uphold certifications and act quickly in emergencies. Deliver high quality programming, personify professionalism, and exhibit excellent customer service to all staff, guests, and students of the IROEC. Instructor development and in-service training Assist in overall administration and facilitation of programs as needed. Complete regular inspections and maintenance of program equipment and facilities. Maintain and uphold facility standard operating procedures including opening and closing the facility, class tracking, and staff development. Delivery of timely and professional feedback about inventory, personnel, or other Participates in IROEC and OCBSA staff meetings, training, and enhancement activities. Assist and facilitate programs and property needs in all areas as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
