Job Description

Environmental Horticulture Long-Term Substitute Teacher August 24 - December 3.
Summary:
The Environmental Horticulture Instructor is responsible for planning and instructing program courses, supervising internships, and preparing students to enter the horticulture industry. This program trains students in landscape and irrigation design and installation, greenhouse operation, soil science, plant healthcare, and green industry equipment. Students will earn industry certifications in each of these areas. Classes taught during this time will be Arboriculture and Greenhouse Management, as well as preparing students for the annual plant sale.
Responsibilities:
Provide theoretical instruction and laboratory experiences that reflect an understanding of the program's philosophy, objectives, and curriculum. Prepare and teach course syllabi in alignment with state and other stakeholder requirements. Design descriptions and objectives for designated courses and create and assess student evaluation tools. Promote and sustain Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that includes a student chapter and participation in local, state, and national events. Facilitate all program licensing board requirements and Colorado Community College System (CCCS) program approvals. Maintains backup and computerized records of all curricula, assessments, accreditation documents, program communications, and academic profiles. Attend required meetings and conferences to keep the school, program, and students informed about national, state, and local developments or alterations in the horticulture industries and communities. Participate in meetings, in-services, workshops, and other professional meetings and act as a resource for community members and other faculty members. Supervise community internship and job shadowing opportunities for students.
Qualifications:
Applicant will need one of the following
Bachelor's Degree:
Horticulture, Biology, Earth Science, Plant science, Botany, natural resource management, conservation and any related degrees. Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Colorado Career and Technical Education Secondary Agriculture Credential. Link for CTE Agriculture credential requirements.

Substitute Authorization:
1 year (need high school experience working with students) or 3 year (must have bachelor's degree). A minimum of 3 years of teaching or related industry experience is preferred. Experience with the instruction and safe use of landscape and turf-grass maintenance equipment is preferred. Proficiency in Google Suite preferred. The successful candidate must possess or be eligible to obtain a Colorado Department of Education (CDE) substitute teaching license.

Condition of Employment:
As a condition of employment, the individual selected for this position will be expected to complete the APS-sponsored Linguistically Diverse Educator (LDE) Certificate Program within the first three years of employment.
