BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Instructor shall deliver the State of Michigan Curriculum as regulated by the Office of Career and Technical Education to students in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration program for Kent ISD in classrooms and labs located at KCTC or in local high schools, as designated by Kent ISD Administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree is required Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a CTE endorsement in 47.0201 Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Refrigeration OR Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a CTE endorsement in one of the following: 17.0101 Cooling, 17.0202 Gas Appliance, 17.0102 Heating, 17.3000 Refrigeration, or 17.0103 Ventilating OR Qualify for Annual Career Authorization - Minimum of two years or 4,000 hours (documented and verified within the last 10 years) of recent and relevant work experience in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration field. Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and refine CTE curriculum to ensure full alignment with Michigan competencies and evolving industry expectations. Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication across diverse audiences. Works effectively with colleagues and contributes positively to team goals. Applies strong organizational and time-management skills to meet deadlines. Maintains accuracy and quality while managing multiple tasks. Uses creativity and sound reasoning to address challenges and improve outcomes. Shows patience, empathy, and flexibility when working with students and colleagues. Operates effectively with minimal supervision and applies critical thinking to make informed decisions. Welcomes feedback and integrates it to enhance performance. Demonstrates regular, predictable, and dependable attendance.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Possess a current and valid EPA 608 Universal Certification or willing to attain within first year of employment Experience working with high school students in classroom and lab settings is preferred. Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging, rigorous instruction in both classroom and lab settings to support hands-on learning. Monitor student progress, provide timely feedback, and maintain a positive, supportive, and effective classroom management approach. Embed relevant industry technologies, simulation platforms, and specialized equipment into classroom and lab activities to mirror real-world practice and strengthen technical skill development. Build and sustain strong relationships with relevant businesses and companies to provide students with meaningful work-based learning opportunities. Facilitate an active Program Advisory Committee to ensure the curriculum reflects evolving industry expectations. Work closely with colleagues, industry leaders, and post-secondary institutions to develop and strengthen partnerships that support students' career pathways and college readiness. Coordinate, administer, and supervise student assessments for industry-recognized certifications and other relevant credentials. Provide the support and guidance students need to successfully complete the credentialing process. Support students in cultivating essential professional skills, including effective communication, ethical decision-making, and collaborative teamwork. Provide guidance as students plan for and transition into post-secondary opportunities. Manage and maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance, program compliance, and credential achievements, ensuring all documentation is complete and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations. Maintain the program budget and ensure all equipment and supplies are properly purchased, inventoried, and maintained. Maintain a safe, compliant, and professional environment in both the classroom and lab spaces.
Program Specific:
Maintain strict adherence to OSHA and MIOSHA standards in the storage and operation of high-voltage equipment, gas-fired appliances, and pressurized cylinders, and consistently apply Lockout/Tagout procedures. Commit to continuous professional development to maintain required teaching certification and industry credentials while staying current with evolving industry standards. Demonstrate a strong commitment to the success of all learners by effectively supporting a diverse student population. Consistently apply culturally responsive and inclusive strategies to foster an equitable classroom environment. Comply with Kent ISD and local district policies, as well as all applicable state and federal laws. Other duties as assigned. Placement on the BA scale is required unless candidate holds a valid State of Michigan Standard CTE teaching certificate. (BA Step 1-5 = $54,386-$66,347/year). (Steps 6+ commensurate with academic degree and experience, as defined by the Master Agreement). Placement on BA+18, MA, or MA+ lanes is considered after receipt of a valid State of Michigan Standard CTE teaching certificate, per Master Agreement. Placement on the salary scale will be commensurate with an applicant's academic degree and the number of years' experience in a particular specialization, or in an approved related field, per
