Job Description
Assignment Walkthrough Expert This part-time, remote role is an opportunity to directly shape how students learn across Rize-powered courses — a growing catalog of 100-, 200-, and 300-level college courses delivered asynchronously across the LCMC, a national consortium of 120+ colleges serving 230,000+ students. As an Assignment Walkthrough Expert, you'll record screen-capture videos in which you actually work through a course's assignments, narrating your thinking as you go. The goal isn't to hand students the answers — it's to model what a knowledgeable, experienced person looks like when they approach this kind of work. Students follow along, pause, try it themselves, and succeed because they've seen the process done by someone who knows what they're doing. We are hiring multiple qualified individuals across a wide range of disciplines. If you have genuine subject-matter depth, a clear and engaging on-camera presence, and enthusiasm for helping students learn, we'd love to hear from you. Current Course Openings We are actively seeking experts in the following subject areas. You may apply for one or more courses within your area of expertise: Biology — General Biology I (Molecular/Cellular); Anatomy & Physiology I & II Business — Personal Finance; Organizational Behavior & Leadership Chemistry — General Chemistry I & II Communications — Media and Culture; Public Speaking Criminal Justice — Introduction to Criminal Justice Economics — Principles of Macroeconomics; Principles of Microeconomics; International Economics (Trade & Policy); Money and Banking / Financial Systems English — Persuasion and Arguments History — World Civilizations I & II; Modern Europe (1789-Present); Introduction to East Asian History; Medieval & Renaissance Europe Mathematics — College Algebra / Quantitative Reasoning; Calculus
II & III
; Linear Algebra; Statistics Physics — General Physics I (Mechanics); General Physics II (Electricity, Magnetism & Waves); Mechanics / Analytical Mechanics Political Science — American Government Sociology — Introduction to Sociology; Sociological Theory; Research Methods for Social Sciences What You'll Do Receive access to a Rize-powered course and all of its unit assignments for a given semester. Work through each assignment yourself, screen-recording and narrating the process — either live as you go, or by completing the work first and then recapping the key steps on camera.Demonstrate your thinking:
how you interpret the prompt, what decisions you make, and why — not a verbatim read-through of the assignment, and not a polished finished-product reveal. Show enough of each step that a student won't be confused, while leaving room for them to engage their own critical thinking. Guide and mentor; don't program. Deliver completed videos for all unit assignments, uploaded to a shared Google Drive folder. Participate in a brief onboarding call (about 15 minutes) with the Rize content team before recording begins. What Great Looks Like The best Assignment Walkthrough Experts don't act as tour guides pointing at the course. They sit next to the student — figuratively speaking — and actually do the work together.Specifically:
You show, not just tell. Instead of saying "you should write a professional response here," you write one, narrating your choices and reasoning as you go. You make your thinking visible — including moments of decision-making, course-correction, and judgment that students need to see modeled by someone who has real experience in the field. You know when to slow down and when to skip ahead. Key steps get demonstrated on screen. Repetitive or self-evident steps can be noted verbally and fast-forwarded. You keep a warm, conversational tone. Your enthusiasm for your subject area is genuine and comes through naturally — not performed. You point students back to materials they'll need to read or complete themselves ("pause here, read the context section, and press play when you're ready"), rather than doing everything for them. Recording & Technical Setup Videos are typically recorded using Loom or Camtasia, with screen capture as the primary view and your webcam as an overlay bubble. We'll walk through setup on your onboarding call — but here's the baseline: A reliable computer with screen recording capability (Loom is ideal and widely used by our experts). A quality microphone — audio clarity matters more than webcam resolution. A reasonably quiet, well-lit, and comfortable space in which to record. Comfort navigating a learning platform and Google Drive for file delivery. Compensation & Scope The rate is $1,000 per course, based on an average of just under two hours of work per unit assignment recorded. Courses run 14 units. Payment is processed by invoice after delivery. Assignment Walkthroughs are produced on a per-course, per-semester basis. Experts who deliver strong work are prioritized for additional courses as our catalog grows. Desired Experience & Qualifications A master's degree or higher in a relevant field — or demonstrated professional experience at a level that allows you to move through 100-300-level college assignments fluently, without needing significant support from our team. Genuine subject-matter expertise. You should be able to open a course's assignment set and work through it confidently. If a course would require significant self-study before you could complete its assignments, this may not be the right fit for that particular course. Experience as an educator at the high school or college level. You understand how students learn, where they get stuck, and what it actually helps to see demonstrated. Comfort and naturalness on camera. You don't need broadcast training — but you should be able to speak clearly, stay focused, and bring some genuine energy to a recording. Real-world professional experience in your field is a bonus. Walkthroughs are especially powerful when students are hearing from someone who has done this work outside of a classroom.
