Temporary Position Summary The Anthropology Program at Bellevue College seeks applications for adjunct faculty interested in teaching introductory Anthropology courses. The program is grounded in a four-field approach to Anthropology and anticipates particular need for Biological Anthropology and Linguistic courses (in hybrid and on campus modalities) for the coming academic year, though applicants from all areas of expertise are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will teach courses as needed on a quarterly basis. We seek instructors for courses typically offered as hybrid on-campus classes meeting two days per week for either 50 minutes, or entirely on campus for a total of 150 minutes per week. Open Pool reviewed quarterly and hired on an as-needed basis. Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule Adjunct Professor is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. Quarterly remuneration for 5-credit lecture class is $6,418.75 - $7,824.66. Compensation is prorated based on type and duration of assignments. Individuals newly hired to Adjunct Professor group at the college are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

In addition to a Survey of Anthropology course, Bellevue College has subject experts and course offerings in each of the four fields. Other courses include a variety of specialty topics such as Sociolinguistics, Forensic Anthropology, Cross-Cultural Medicine, Introduction to North American Archaeology and more. A dedicated Anthropology Lab houses an impressive collection of primate and hominin casts, artifact replicas, and teaching materials. The Anthropology department is committed to promoting equitable classrooms and utilizing service learning, lab and hands-on activities, project-based learning, and sustainability-focused activities. Essential Functions

• Be available to teach on-campus and hybrid courses, as dictated by program need, course schedule, and enrollment.
• Be available to students outside of class periodically to engage students in active learning and provide students with timely feedback on their work.
• Create and actively maintain appropriate course site on Canvas, the Learning Management System for the college.
• Work with peers to maintain high standards of course content and adhere to program policies, student success efforts, and assessment practices. Minimum Qualifications
• Master's degree in Anthropology or Linguistics.
• Ability to relate to students and staff of varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, and abilities along with a commitment to a culturally diverse environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues and respond in a timely fashion to requests.
• Ability and willingness to adapt to changing teaching scheduling and situations. Preferred Qualifications
• PhD in Anthropology or Linguistics
• Documented successful teaching experience in Anthropology or Linguistics
• Documented ability to effectively teach in traditional, hybrid, and online modalities
• Experience teaching in a community college or equivalent institution
• Knowledge of current curriculum, teaching, and assessment practices in higher education
• Ability and willingness to employ continuous improvement in curriculum, teaching, and assessment
