Job Duties
INTERNAL POSTING
Open only to applicants currently employed by East Carolina University. The Director of Faculty Development leads and coordinates faculty-centered development efforts, including learning communities, workshops, and structured support programs related to promotion, tenure, reappointment, advancement in title, and post-tenure vitality. Working collaboratively with faculty, department chairs, and college leadership, the Director helps foster a culture of continuous growth, mentoring, and scholarly productivity. This position focuses on developmental and educational support and does not manage or overseeconfidential personnel evaluation processes. The Director of Faculty Development collaborates with COE Executive Team, Office for Faculty Excellence, COE Office for Research and Innovation, Director of Research Support Faculty Development & Career Progression Support
  • Lead college-wide faculty development initiatives that support career progression across ranks, including pre-tenure, tenure-track, fixed-term, and senior faculty.
  • Design and facilitate programming that supports faculty advancement, including promotion, tenure, reappointment, advancement in title, and post-tenure growth.
  • Develop resources and guidance materials that assist faculty in navigating academic career milestones and expectations. Faculty Resource Communities & Learning Groups
  • Coordinate and facilitate Faculty Resource Community (FRC) groups and other learning communities that provide peer support, accountability, and professional development.
  • Support the creation of career-stage-based, or topic-focused faculty communities aligned with faculty needs and College priorities.
  • Collaborate with faculty facilitators to ensure consistency, quality, and impact across faculty development offerings. Professional & Personal Development Programming
  • Collaborate with Associate Dean for Innovation and Development to assist with planning workshops, series, and professional development sessions focused on teaching effectiveness, scholarly productivity, mentoring, leadership development, work-life integration, and faculty wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to offer programming that supports faculty resilience, balance, and long-term career sustainability.
  • Support faculty leadership development initiatives that prepare faculty for administrative, programmatic, and service leadership roles. Mentoring & Faculty Success Initiatives
  • Support mentoring initiatives for early-career, mid-career, and senior faculty, including peer and group mentoring models.
  • Collaborate with COE Leadership Team to strengthen mentoring practices that support retention, productivity, and professional fulfillment. Assessment, Planning & Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to planning, assessment, and evaluation of faculty development initiatives to ensure effectiveness and alignment with College goals.
  • Collect feedback and participation data to inform future programming and enhancements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that advance faculty development and College priorities.
The selected candidate will retain their faculty status and receive an administrative stipend. Contingent on availability of funding. Minimum Education/Experience Current full-time, tenured faculty member within the College of Education. Demonstrated experience in faculty mentoring, professional development, or academic leadership. Knowledge of faculty career pathways, promotion and tenure expectations, and academic progression. Evidence of effective collaboration across departments or interdisciplinary initiatives. Demonstrated strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills. License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation N/A Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education Experience leading faculty development programs, learning communities, or professional development workshops. Experience supporting faculty through promotion, tenure, or advancement processes in a developmental capacity. Familiarity with evidence-based faculty development models (e.g., learning communities, mentoring frameworks). Demonstrated commitment to a culture of care and holistic faculty development practices.
