The services DOC provides are designed to balance today's needs with tomorrow's obligations by fostering the wise use and conservation of energy, land, and mineral resources. CalGEM prioritizes protecting public health, safety, and the environment in its oversight of the oil, natural gas, and geothermal industries, while working to help California achieve its climate change and clean energy goals. To do that, CalGEM uses science and sound engineering practices to regulate the drilling, operation, and permanent closure of energy resource wells. For more information, please visit: https://www.conservation.ca.gov/calgem The Department of Conservation (DOC) California Geologic Energy Management (CalGEM) Division is seeking to hire one Student Assistant (SA) under the supervision of the Senior Oil and Gas Engineer (Supervisor). Since the Senior Engineer is based in Sacramento HQ while the work will be in Long Beach, the SA will coordinate with the Long Beach based Associate Oil and Gas Engineer for day-to-day work. The SA will work with CalGEM data records. Duties will include gathering, preparing, reviewing, cataloging, scanning, performing QA/QC, filing/archiving well logs, well files, maps and other CalGEM records, along with other duties relating to data improvement. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Compensation $16.90 per hour Minimum Qualifications Competent in using Microsoft Office 365 Software (Words, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, etc.). Must exercise good judgment and use a high degree of initiative and discretion. Be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff. Must be able to perform technical duties accurately with minimal supervision. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0. Must be able to work in CalGEM's Long Beach office. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in an administrative role. Familiarity with standard office practices, procedures, and equipment including but not limited to scanners, computers, and filing. Advanced skills or experience with Microsoft Office. Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Duties and Responsibilities Catalog well log information in Microsoft Access and create Microsoft Excel spreadsheets for log scanning. Label and scan well logs and ensure proper scan settings are selected. Copy log name from a provided spreadsheet or type log name to create the file and scan logs for an acceptable image. Scan data files and ensure records are in proper order and perform quality control on scanned images. Upload scanned documents to WellSTAR or designated location. Re-box and prepare well logs for transportation for record retention and storage. Retrieve well files for scanning and return well files to filing system. Assist clerical staff with locating well records or with processing special projects. Perform all other duties as assigned by CalGEM's Geothermal Program Senior or Associate Engineer. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
