In this role, you will assist with the organization, cataloging, and maintenance of rare books, ensuring their protection and accessibility for researchers, scholars, and visitors. Your enthusiasm for library services combined with meticulous attention to detail will help foster an environment where history comes alive through these unique collections. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop specialized skills in library management, data entry, and research within a dynamic cultural institution. Responsibilities Assist in cataloging rare books using specialized databases and integrated library system software to ensure accurate records. Perform detailed data entry to update and maintain the library's catalog, ensuring consistency and completeness. Support the physical filing, shelving, and organization of rare books according to established classification standards. Conduct research on specific items within the collection to enhance metadata and provide contextual information for patrons. Help manage the preservation process by monitoring environmental conditions and handling books with care during inspection or movement. Provide excellent customer service by assisting visitors and researchers in locating materials and answering inquiries about the collection. Troubleshoot basic software issues related to library systems and assist with data collection efforts for collection development projects. Skills Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear documentation and effective customer interactions. Proficiency in using databases, integrated library systems, and general computer software including MS Office suite. Experience with cataloging standards, filing systems, and data entry techniques relevant to library collections. Knowledge of library services, research methods, and preservation practices for rare books. Ability to troubleshoot common software issues related to library management systems. Attention to detail when handling delicate materials and maintaining accurate records of collection items.
