Duties Help The United Stes Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally chartered, nonpartisan institution th was creed by the US Congress to serve as America's nional memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and an educional institution dediced to the history and lessons of the Holocaust. The Museum seeks to educe Americans from all 50 stes and all walks of life as well as internional audiences. The Museum has three areas of expertise: Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and educion, and genocide prevention. In carrying out its important memorial and educional mission, the Museum is guided by its institutional values for our workplace: Honor the memory of the victims; carry out our work with dignity, humility, integrity and respect for others; and strive for excellence through teamwork, rigor, and a culture of continuous learning. Duties Include:
Serve as the Archival Affairs Division (AAD) Deputy Director and to provide, alongside the Division Director, comprehensive archival, caloging, and stregic direction for the two AAD branch chiefs and their staff, the Film and Special Media Archivist, the Institutional Archivist and Records Manager, and the Museum, with an emphasis on description and the orchestrion of archival processing and caloging of incoming collections and accretions, and coordinion with other staff to ensure and expand physical and digital access to the Museum's Collection of Record. Develop and implement archival standards and practices for the Museum th meet or exceed the internional standards of the archival field and displays expertise in orchestring teams of archivists, calogers, and support staff structuring the organizion of collections on behalf of the Museum. Oversee the efforts of the archival team (all Division employees) regarding all merials acquired for the Museum's collections, including three-dimensional artifacts, papers and manuscripts, film, oral histories, recorded sound, and copies of archival collections from other institutions. Ensure th branch-led procedures for archival organizion, description, indexing, and caloging are developed and followed by Archival Affairs Division staff to enhance usability and discoverability of collections. Support the development, management, oversight, and reporting on budgets to the division and office leadership; Inities or drafts preparion of grant proposals and reports to donors in cooperion with the Office of Development staff and in collaborion with the Rubenstein Institute Director of Planning and Administrion and Office leadership. Prepares verbal and written draft presentions, subject to the concurrence of the Division Director, on behalf of the Museum on topics including the activities, policies, and methods of the Division, Office, and Museum for partner and other archival institutions, scholars, researchers, donors, media, and others. Implements archival processing and caloging procedures and priorities in close collaborion with the needs of and workflows within the Office. Provides direction and management of the Archival Affairs Division, through leadership and monitoring staff activities and projects. Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major th includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combinion of the following: archival science, history, American civilizion, economics, political science, public administrion, or government. Evaluion of Experience:
Professional experience must have been in archival science, or in a directly reled field of work such as history th involved the collection, appraisal, analysis, or synthesis of informion having historical or archival values. The following are illustrive of kinds of experience th may be accepted as meeting the professional experience requirements: (1) experience as an archivist in Federal, ste, religious institution, business, or other archives, or in manuscript depositories, and (2) experience of an archival nure th involved research in archival science, or in a directly reled field such as history, government, economics, political science, internional relions, or internional law. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the specialized experience listed below.
Specialized Experience:
Specialized experience is experience directly reled to the position to be filled. Qualifying experience for GS- 14 includes one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 which is directly reled to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is developing and implementing archival standards and practices th meet or exceed the internional standards of the archival field; displaying expertise in orchestring teams of archivists, calogers, and support staff; overseeing and providing direction and management of the Archival Arrangement and Description Branch; monitoring staff activities of the archival team (all Branch employees) regarding all merials acquired for the Museum's collections; supporting the development, management, oversight, and reporting on budgets to the division and office leadership; initiing or drafting grant proposals and reports.
Time-in-Grade Requirements:
Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying).
