POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Project Coordinator and the Purchasing Agent the Records & Archives Technician is responsible for the physical organization, labeling, cataloging, and archiving boxed records and materials stored in Mount Laurel MUA's warehouse facility. This is a temporary part-time position suitable for college students seeking experience in records management, public administration, or a related field. The incumbent will work in accordance with applicable State records retention schedules and agency policies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are representative of the work performed in this classification. This list is not exhaustive, and other duties may be assigned as needed. Physically inspect, sort, and organize warehouse boxes containing agency records and documents. Create and affix clear, standardized labels to boxes in accordance with agency naming conventions and records retention schedules. Enter box and record information into a tracking log, spreadsheet, or records management database. Catalog contents of boxes by type, date range, department of origin, and assigned retention period. Identify and flag boxes that may contain records requiring special handling (e.g., confidential, legally sensitive, or historically significant materials). Arrange archived boxes in a logical, consistent order on shelving to facilitate efficient retrieval. Assist with preparation of records for disposition, destruction, or transfer per applicable retention schedules. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area within the warehouse. Communicate questions, discrepancies, or issues regarding records to the supervising staff member. Follow all agency policies, procedures, and applicable state/local government records management regulations. Perform other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience:
No prior professional experience required. Experience in filing, data entry, office organization, or a warehouse/storage environment is preferred but not mandatory. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately. Ability to work independently and maintain consistent productivity without close supervision. Basic proficiency with common software tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets) for data entry. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in labeling and documentation. Ability to lift, carry, and move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods of time. Dependable and punctual with a professional demeanor. Ability to work cooperatively with staff at all levels. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Coursework or academic major in Library Science, Records Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, History, or a related field. Prior experience working in an office, library, government setting, or archival environment. Familiarity with State of NJ records retention schedules or document management. Experience with barcode labeling, inventory systems, or asset tracking tools. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed primarily in a warehouse or storage facility environment. The position requires sustained physical activity including standing for extended periods, frequent lifting (up to 50 lbs.), bending, and working in areas that may be dusty or have variable temperatures.
