Job Description

The Archives Associate is a Civil Service position located in the Nashville Public Library. The incumbent performs paraprofessional and clerical work involved in day-to-day operations of a public library in the archives division, and is also responsible for related duties as required. Provides direct archives services to the public, such as reference and research guidance and outreach as assigned. Conducts tours for school and community groups. Assists the public with archives resources and services, including use of on-line databases and internet resources, locating materials and information. Adheres to library Customer Service Guidelines. Writes reports on various aspects of services provided. Performs duties involved in processing original records for public use. Files, maintains and updates records or reference materials. Creates and maintains computer databases. Processes original records for public use and performs conservation techniques. Attends meetings and participates on committees as needed. Assists with special projects. Oversees and participates in opening and closing the archives division. May assist with training classes for staff and the public. May serve as the person-in-charge in the absence of the supervisor. May review and recommend books and other materials for purchase. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university •Additional library, customer service, or similar public service experience may be considered in lieu of education (1:1 ratio).• Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
