Job Description
Acquires, checks-in, catalogs, classifies, and processes library materials while adhering to appropriate acquisition and cataloging rules. Maintains periodical summary holding information in the library database. Performs all clerical and technical functions for federal, state, and local government documents collections. Discards library materials. Maintains appropriate statistics on withdrawals and additions to all library collections. Provides Inter-Library Loan Services (ILLS). The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description . Orders and receives materials for use in the library and for patron use. Catalogs, classifies, and processes materials using automated cataloging software and Online Computer Library Company (OCLC) computer systems. Prepares items for circulation. Removes items from card catalog databases as needed. Coordinates acquisition of periodical subscriptions. Receives, processes, links, and maintains summary holding statements in WYLD. Receives and processes government documents in all formats (paper, fiche, and electronic) according to established procedures. Performs immediate processing of reference books, best sellers, and patrons' reserves to best meet needs of library and public. Prepares damaged materials to go to the bindery for repairs. Compiles and maintains records of bindery activity. Compiles monthly statistical reports of library materials' additions and deletions. Compiles and maintains government document statistics. Assists reference staff with document searches or information. Communicates with appropriate staff on government documents holdings issues. Attends and participates in staff meetings and related activities. Attends workshops, conferences, and classes to increase professional knowledge. Performs related duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
At least two years of relevant college-level course work or an Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field One (1) to three (3) years of experience Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities Required Licenses or Certifications:
None Knowledge of:
English grammar, spelling, and punctuation Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment Current principles, standards, procedures, and practices of library acquisition, classification and cataloging, and indexing Current principles, standards, procedures, and practices of periodical and government documents classification and maintenance Database and Internet sites pertinent to acquisitions and government documents Bibliographic utilities, online catalog databases, and automated technologies used for library acquisition, cataloging, serials and government documents classifications and maintenance Book and non-book materials, reference resources, cataloging acquisition, and classification plans WYLD and OCLC databases Skill in: Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios Communication, both oral and written Customer service Ability to: Meet schedules and deadlines of the work Understand and carry out oral and written directions Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries Maintain and edit all bibliographic records Read and interpret complex technical documents and instructions Interpret and apply pertinent cataloging rules to classify library materials, periodicals, and government documents according to professional library standards Perform acquisition, cataloging procedures, classification of periodicals and government document procedures in accordance with statewide database quality practices PHYSICAL DEMANDS
