Job Description

The Department of Art & Design seeks applicants for a Limited Term position at the rank of Lecturer in Ceramics , beginning August 1, 2026, and ending May 10, 2027. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in ceramics and 3D foundations and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

Responsibilities Teaching a 4/4 load in ceramics as well as foundations courses in 3D media; participating in service at the department, college, and university levels; engaging in student mentoring, recruitment, curriculum management, and community engagement; and maintaining ceramics tools and studio while demonstrating responsible stewardship of shared teaching and studio spaces. Additional teaching responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Required Qualifications Terminal degree in ceramics (M.F.A.) by appointment date Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning Knowledge of skills and practices in studio/design areas, especially ceramics Understanding of industry-standard safety practices and protocols Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting Ability to teach a variety of ceramics techniques, such as wheel throwing, hand building, glazing and firing Ability to operate and maintain kilns and facilities Preferred Qualifications A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant's career stage Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting A record of mentoring students Ability to work with all levels of undergraduate students Ability to manage and track the area budget Valdosta State University, founded in 1906, is a comprehensive university with a student enrollment of approximately 10,200.
