Full time, 9-month, general funds, to begin approximately Fall 2026, pending position clearance, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. Renewal of appointment contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teaches a variety of Art and Creative Media (CM) courses, with emphasis upon courses required for the CM AS degree program.

This may include, but is not limited to, introductory and intermediate-level courses in digital photography, digital/graphic arts and design, website design, and 3D animation. Assignments may also include Early College Art and/or CM courses offered at different high school campuses on the island of Kaua`i, as needed. Day, evening, early morning, weekend, off-campus, and/or distance education classes may be assigned as part of regular workload. Changes to modality and approaches for teaching assignments may be needed to address emerging needs.

• Identifies students' learning needs, including needs of underprepared students, and implements effective teaching strategies to address them.
• Independently plans, organizes, and carries out instructional and non-instructional assignments.
• Revises or creates new curricula and student learning outcomes when necessary, and regularly prepares and revises course syllabi.
• Performs regular course assessments and participates in ongoing discipline

• and institutional-level assessment. Implements adjustments to course content and professional practice to improve student learning in classes taught.
• Provides production expertise for the program's photography, video, and live events.
• Works collaboratively with the CM Program Coordinator to maintain and manage CM equipment.
• Fosters and leverages professional connections on island to arrange and monitor program-required student internships. Maintains open communication with community digital artists and art organizations.

Minimum qualifications:

• Master's in Fine Arts in Studio Art with the specialization in new media art or a related area of study (i.e. design, animation, digital art, digital media, multi-media, computer graphics, film, etc.) AND 1 year of related industry experience; or
• Any Master's degree with coursework in new media art or a related area of study AND 3 years of related industry experience; or
• Any Bachelor's degree with coursework in new media art or a related area of study AND 5 years of related industry experience; or
• Any Associate's degree with coursework in new media art or a related area of study AND 7 years of related industry experience.

All degrees must be earned from an accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available, others will be considered on an Acting Instructor basis.

Desirable qualifications:

• One to three (1-3) years of successful experience teaching college-level digital graphic arts or related disciplines.
• Successful experience teaching students at a variety of ability and initial skill levels, including underprepared students.
• Successful multi-cultural teaching experience.
• Successful experience integrating a variety of pedagogical approaches in the delivery of instruction.
• Demonstrated clarity in oral and written language skills.
• Ability to employ writing assignments and critical thinking skill development as part of students' classroom learning activities.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate a variety of learning technologies with student instruction, including the use of online platforms, learning management software, distance learning modalities, and/or classroom technology.
• Ability and desire to be a cooperative, contributing member of a team invested in student success.
