JOB GOAL
To advance the college's mission, vision, principles, values and strategic initiatives through continuous improvement decisions. Pay is $1,304 per credit hour, subject to increase after July 1, 2026 and each class is 3 credits.
GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
Kirkwood Community College seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Adjunct Instructor in 2D Design for Fall 2026. Courses of instruction would either meet Tues and Thurs 9:05am-11:05am, or Monday and Wednesday 2:30pm
  • 4:30pm on the main campus in Cedar Rapids.
The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge base in the Art discipline in two-dimensional media, and an understanding of the elements and principles of two-dimensional design and its processes using tools that are both digital and non-digital. Teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Primary duties will include instructing students in courses and communicating with department staff, students, and other faculty. Adjunct faculty play a vital role in instruction. Adjunct instructors are responsible for coordinating, planning, preparing, presenting, and evaluating classroom instruction and related activities. Adjunct faculty bring a variety of backgrounds and professional experiences which foster growth in the subject matter and enrich student learning. Adjunct faculty must evaluate, record, and report student achievement and progress in assigned courses in accordance with department, division, and college policies and procedures. Must be able to design and participate in assessing student learning projects within the discipline, the department, and the college. Adjunct faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions scheduled intermittently based on institutional need. Adjuncts are not guaranteed work in any semester and are notified of course assignments prior to each term as courses become available.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruct students as it relates to foundational concepts in design and composition. Instruct students to work with collage, drawing, painting, and digital images through Photoshop. Work with other faculty members to develop a course syllabus and consistent assessments. Communicate with department staff, students, and faculty regularly. Perform other related work duties as assigned.

Effectively instruct and communicate material for the course. Abide by and enforce safety rules when in a lab setting. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION
Position involves working in a classroom setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of a master's degree with 18 Graduate hours in the Art discipline. Experience teaching 2D Design or related courses.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
Experience teaching at the college level. MFA in Art discipline.
