Job Description

The Eastman School of Music invites applications and nominations for Director of the Institute for Music Leadership and Professor of Music Leadership. This faculty position includes a 50% administrative role. This is a multi-year, renewable, non-tenure eligible position. Entering its 30th year, the Institute for Music Leadership plays a central role in preparing musicians for sustainable, impactful careers. The faculty member in this role will provide strategic and artistic leadership for IML, oversee the Master's program in Music Leadership, and support the development of innovative, industry‑connected and project‑based learning experiences that reflect today's vibrant music profession.
Responsibilities include:
In partnership with the dean and other senior leaders, overseeing the academic and strategic direction of the Institute for Music Leadership Coordinate and lead the Master's degree in Music Leadership Maintaining and building meaningful connections across a wide range of music industry sectors (nonprofit, commercial, creative industries, emerging fields) Leveraging industry relationships to support experiential learning, internships, and professional opportunities for students Teaching and mentoring students Collaborating on fundraising, community partnerships, and external engagement Eastman welcomes applicants whose expertise has been developed primarily through professional practice, leadership, and innovation within the music industry, alongside or in place of traditional academic pathways.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree required in music or a related field Significant professional experience as a musician, innovator, and educator Demonstrated leadership within artistic, educational, cultural, or music‑industry organizations, or leadership as an active independent artist. Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills
