Pay Determination:
Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University invites applications for a Professor of Practice - Sound Recording, to begin Fall 2026. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track appointment, with an initial three-year term and the possibility of renewal. Candidates must have a Master's degree in a related STEAM field, 5-10 years of significant professional experience in the music production industry, documented successful collegiate teaching experience, component level expertise with audio production hardware and software, and active engagement in appropriate professional organizations. Experience in commercial composition and/or songwriting a plus. Experience in equipment maintenance and repair a plus. Responsibilities include teaching such courses as studio recording, music mastering, studio acoustics, music business for audio engineers, recording studio management, or similar as well as related duties as assigned by the Director of the School. Successful candidates will remain current with current technology, trends, and practices in audio production. The chosen candidate will be expected to be an active member of the Setnor community, serving on various university, college, and school committees, participating in student recruitment, attending student performances, as well as other related duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Music. The school is particularly interested in candidates who have communication abilities and cross-cultural competencies to maximize their effectiveness with many different groups of students, colleagues, and community members. Qualifications:
Masters degree in a related STEAM field from an accredited institution, or commensurate professional experience at the very highest level. Significant experience in studio recording and live sound. Technical expertise with audio production hardware and software.
Job Specific Qualifications:
An established music performance background, expertise in professional audio equipment and systems design, technical engineering skills, and ability to provide sound production instruction in a multitude of applications and musical genres. Ability to utilize and implement new pedagogies and classroom strategies to advance comprehensive learning opportunities with a commitment to 21st-Century pedagogy Recording engineer with a developing regional to national profile. Ability to develop strategies in defining and supporting the future direction of the music industry program and the School of Music. A record of successful recruiting. Organizational and leadership abilities.
Responsibilities:
Candidate will teach courses in studio recording, music mastering, studio acoustics, recording studio management. Other course assignments dependent upon areas of expertise. We seek candidates who show evidence of a strong academic background and professional activity in music production and related fields. A successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate students, help coordinate use of Belfer studio, mentor students, participate in recruiting, and engage in service. The candidate should maintain active expertise in the field of audio production. In addition, the candidate must possess strong musical, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively and interface with many different groups of students and colleagues.
