Scope of Job The Department of Art at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for two (2) one-year Lecturer positions, to begin Fall 2026, in its Bachelor's/Master of Fine Arts (B.A./BFA/MFA) programs.
These are two distinct positions:
- One Lecturer in Visual Communication Design (VCD).
- One Lecturer in Photography.
Both positions may involve teaching at UTRGV's Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.
UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV's guiding principles (utrgv/strategic-plan/), which include promoting access to postsecondary education to a diverse student body and to becoming one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving emerging research institutions in the U.S.A.
Teaching assignments may include;
- Visual Communication Design Position; Graphic Design in Print, Typography, Visual Communication Design, and related courses.
Photography Position:
Photography, Art Appreciation, and related courses.
Candidates must demonstrate teaching experience and expertise appropriate to the position for which they are ing, either in visual communication/graphic design practices or in photography. UTRGV is a distributed institution; as assigned, faculty may be required to teach and be present at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley, including UTRGV's Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.
Minimum Qualifications To be considered for a one-year appointment in Visual Communication Design/Graphic Design or Photography, candidates must hold one of the following from an accredited institution:
- A Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or MS degree in Graphic Design/Visual Communication Design or Photography; or
- An MFA with at least 18 graduate credit hours in the relevant subject area.
Appropriate professional experience in the field may be considered in lieu of, or in addition to, formal academic credentials, in accordance with university policy.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications One-year lecturers hired to teach in these areas will be required to attend a training workshop in August (one day) on the use of D2L Brighspace and common online text. Inability to attend training may result in the cancellation of the assignment. Preferred Qualification Teaching experience is desirable, as well as the ability to use technology to support teaching and learning. Lecturers must be willing to do assessment measures to contribute to the data on assessment. Preference is given to applicants who are willing to teach at both the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.
Salary One-Year Lecturers are paid a 9-month academic rate commensurate with experience and/or qualification in the discipline. All positions are subject to budget approval.
