Viewpoint School is currently seeking a Teacher of Art in the Lower School (Grades 3-5). The Teacher of Art in the Lower School (Grades 3-5) is responsible for creating a dynamic and engaging visual arts program that nurtures creativity, skill development, and self-expression in young artists. This teacher fosters a classroom environment where students build foundational artistic skills while also developing their own ideas, perspectives, and confidence through artmaking. The ideal candidate believes that art is both a form of communication and a process of exploration. They design lessons that balance skill-building with opportunities for student choice, conceptual thinking, and personal expression. Through observation, experimentation, and reflection, students are encouraged to develop curiosity, resilience, and pride in their creative work. Curriculum & Instruction Design and teach a developmentally appropriate visual arts curriculum for students in grades 3-5. Balance foundational skill-building (drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and design) with opportunities for student-driven exploration and creative decision-making. Incorporate observational drawing, experimentation with materials, and hands-on studio practices. Create projects that encourage students to develop ideas, solve visual problems, and express personal perspectives. Introduce students to a diverse range of artists, cultures, and artistic traditions. Integrate contemporary artists and practices when appropriate to broaden students' understanding of art and its role in the world. Skills and Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Art, Art Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). Experience teaching visual arts to elementary-aged students. Strong studio background across multiple media. Passion for supporting creativity, student voice, and artistic exploration in young learners. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Compensation:
