Job Description
The Art Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading visual and performing arts activities with a focus on theatre-based programs. This position assists with youth and community theatre productions, stage design, costume and prop creation, and related art instruction. The Instructor promotes creativity, collaboration, and positive participation among program participants while ensuring a safe and engaging environment. Plan and conduct art and theatre-related classes, workshops, and activities for youth and adults. Assist with the design, construction, and decoration of theatre sets, props, and costumes. Support theatre program operations including rehearsals, performances, and community events. Prepare and maintain instructional materials, supplies, and equipment. Encourage creative expression and skill development in a positive and inclusive learning environment. Ensure the safety and well-being of participants during classes and performances. Collaborate with other recreation staff, volunteers, and community partners to promote arts programming. Maintain attendance records and assist with program evaluations. Help with program setup, cleanup, and organization of art spaces or theatre areas. Perform related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or degree in Art, Theatre, Education, or a related field preferred. One (1) year of experience teaching or assisting in art, theatre, or recreation programs preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of art materials, techniques, and safety practices. Familiarity with theatre production elements such as set design, costuming, or stage management. Ability to engage and motivate participants of various ages and skill levels. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
