Classroom Teaching Teaching Full Job Description Description:
The Art Instructor teaches Sculptural Mixed Media and Mosaic classes, introducing senior adults (age 55 and over) to three-dimensional art using a variety of accessible materials. Students will explore wire, cardboard, paper mache, fabric, wood, and found objects to create expressive, imaginative works of art. The course emphasizes construction techniques, form, texture, and creative problem-solving in a supportive and energizing environment.
Schedule:
Varying M-F afternoon or evening hours, with the possibility of evening classes, approximately 3 hours per class. Essential Functions Plan and lead engaging, hands-on art classes for adult and possibly teen learners Teach in a manner that promotes artistic growth Stay current on teaching and art trends and implement in the classroom Work with supervisor to create a class outline, budget, and manage supply needs Record and submit attendance records and enforce enrollment deadlines Maintain a clean and organized classroom and supply closet, in cooperation with other Art Instructors Attend mandatory meetings/trainings Coordinate and implement Annual Art Show & Opening Reception Foster a supportive, inclusive and creative classroom environment
Requirements:
1-2 years prior teaching experience, preferably teaching senior adults Ability to prepare curriculum for subject matter Artistic ability in a variety of mediums, especially 3D, mosaic, and mixed media techniques Flexibility, creativity and ability to meet student needs in terms of goals, levels, and areas of interest Able to use basic computer technology such as email and time clock Knowledge of Jewish culture, values and traditions or willingness to learn Excellent verbal communication skills Able to build positive relationships with a diverse group of senior adult students Physical Requirements Able to move freely around art studio to provide group and individual instruction Able to use art supplies and cleaning supplies related to painting and drawing instruction About The J The J is committed to creating a diverse environment.
