Aug 19, 2026 Job Description Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS), located in Malden, Massachusetts, was founded in 1998 and serves more than 1,700 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. At Mystic Valley, student success is driven by exceptional teachers, carefully selected curricula delivered with fidelity, high expectations, and a commitment to traditional pedagogy. Year after year, Mystic Valley ranks among the top public schools not only in Massachusetts, but throughout New England and the nation. Our students consistently achieve outstanding success at the post-secondary level, reflecting the rigorous academic preparation they receive during their time at MVRCS. Students in Grades K-12 attend school in dress code for 200 instructional days annually, and the school day is extended by 60 minutes compared to most traditional public schools. Together, these elements enable MVRCS to fulfill its mission of providing every student with access to a world-class education. Job Description The Art Teacher is responsible for introducing students to the study of art throughout history while fostering creativity, artistic expression, and technical skill development. Instruction is aligned with the Core Knowledge Sequence and connected, when appropriate, to concepts taught across other subject areas. The ideal candidate will collaborate with colleagues, communicate effectively with parents and families, and plan, deliver, and assess engaging instruction that supports student growth and achievement. The Art Teacher will also conduct any necessary research and preparation required to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the role. Responsibilities Execute a program of study aligned with documented curricula and, when applicable, the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework Deliver instruction using Core Knowledge and IB methodologies Design and implement lessons and units with clearly defined learning objectives Assess student progress regularly and provide progress reports and report cards as required Collaborate weekly with colleagues and department leadership regarding curriculum, instruction, assessment, data analysis, and instructional methodology Implement the school's assertive discipline model for classroom management with fidelity Attend all staff meetings and actively participate in professional development opportunities Foster a positive, structured, and engaging classroom environment that promotes creativity and academic growth Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Art or a related field required Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to write reports, correspondence, and instructional documentation clearly and effectively Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and recommend appropriate courses of action Ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community Ability to perform duties in compliance with school requirements, state and federal laws, and MVRCS policies Experience evaluating student performance and summarizing findings through written reports Strong collaboration, instructional, coaching, and leadership skills Excellent organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment Proactive, student-centered, and solution-oriented mindset Knowledge of specialized content areas, instructional practices, and related educational procedures Ability to plan and implement lessons aligned with school objectives and the varying needs and abilities of students
