The New Art Center is amunity art education space which offers everyone exceptional opportunities to make, exhibit, view, think about and talk about art.Position Summary:
The Summer Art Program at the New Art Center seeks talented, creative and inspiring art teachers for students grades 1-6. The program consists of ten week-long sessions, beginning Monday, June 22 and ending on Friday, August 28, 2026 (NAC is closed July 3), The camp day for instructors is from 8:45am-4:15pm. All Summer Faculty will work with and be supported by the Summer Program Coordinator, Education and Camp Manager and Senior TAs. Our Child & Preteen Programs for Grades K-6 consist of five specialty areas:2-dimensional art (painting, drawing, collage, making), 3-dimensional art (assemblage, sculpture), Clay, Performance, and STEAM. Teachers will engage each day with five groups of up to 15 students each for 60 minute lessons, apanied by a counselor and, when available, a counselor-in-training or aide. Teachers will work with the Summer Program Coordinator to propose and develop art projects relating to weekly themes.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and deliver daily art instruction across five 60-minute class blocks for groups of up to 15 students in grades 1-6, specializing in one of five areas: 2D art, 3D art, Clay, Performance, or STEAM. Develop themed art projects in collaboration with the Summer Program Coordinator, aligning weekly curricula with program themes. Manage a structured classroom environment across a 7-hour workday, coordinating with assigned counselors and aides to ensure student safety, engagement, and creative exploration. Differentiate instruction to meet the developmental and creative needs of a diverse range of young learners across grades 1-6, fostering confidence, curiosity, and artistic growth. Participate in program planning andmunication with the Summer Program Coordinator and Deputy Director of Programs, contributing to a collaborative and supportive facultymunity throughout the 10-week session.Qualifications:
An experienced, creative teacher with demonstrated passion for developing and teaching art projects for students in grades 1-6. Ability to manage students with a range of learning styles and personalities A dependable, energetic person who can function as part of a team responsible for the safety and positive engagement of up to 80 children daily Ability to plan ahead,municate with Summer Program Coordinator and execute on the plan, while maintaining a flexible, patient, and supportive attitude towards students and colleagues A positive, helpful attitude and friendly etiquette with students, parents, counselors, faculty and staffTHINGS TO NOTE
Teachers with the necessary skills, experience and passion who are able tomit to the full 10-week program will be given priority, but partial seasonal applicants are wee too. Orientation, first aid, and mental health training will be provided prior to the first week. Training will be repeated twice during the summer for partial-season faculty and staff. Orientation will be provided for all faculty. CORI clearance and proof of ability to work legally in the US will be required. This position is temporary, part-time, not exempt from overtime and not eligible for benefits. This position requires the ability to remain active throughout the day, including standing and walking for extended periods, moving between classrooms and outdoor spaces, and frequently going up and down stairs. Responsibilities include setting up and breaking down classrooms, which may involve lifting and moving chairs, tables, and art supplies.
