: The Brandon School District is a mid-size school district nestled in Northwest Oakland County. The district has approximately 1,000 students in junior kindergarten-5th grade between the two elementary schools, approximately 600 at the middle school level and approximately 850 at the high school. This small, tight knit community has a strong connection to its schools and is passionate about the education of its youth. Brandon High School sends 85-90% of its graduates to post-secondary school each year, it was ranked in the 82nd percentile of all schools in the State on the top-to-bottom rankings and it was awarded as a Silver Medal Winner by the US News. Our elementary schools are both one-to-one technology are each near the 83rd percentile in State rankings.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a K-12 Art Endorsement. Meets "Highly Qualified" requirements under NCLB . Experience using computers and educational technology. Experience working with elementary-aged children preferred. Experience teaching Art with a variety of media and techniques, i.e. drawing, painting, clay, design, etc. preferred.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with students, parents and district staff. Strong skills in various art mediums and knowledge of art history and design principles. Understanding of classroom management, student development, and curriculum standards. Ability to manage inventory and prepare materials for multiple classes. Ability to travel between both elementary schools to teach classes in both locations.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: Teach district approved curriculum Design and implement engaging lesson plans covering art techniques (e.g., painting, sculpture, sketching) and art history, tailored to various skill levels. Demonstrate techniques and produce sample works to help students understand concepts. Set up, organize, and maintain art supplies and equipment; ensure a safe, clean, and orderly studio environment. Evaluate student projects and provide constructive feedback to foster artistic growth. Encourage creative thinking, self-expression, and appreciation for the arts. Organize, showcase, and curate student artwork for school exhibitions and community events. Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere. Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports. Identify student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans. Plan and coordinate the work of parapros, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips. Create an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays to exhibit students' work. Other duties may be assigned.REPORTS TO
