Art teacher duties and responsibilities
- Plan and develop art and art history curriculum adhering to educational best practices and state and school district curriculum guidelines.
- Purchase art material and maintain inventory of art material.
- Organize storage area for art supplies and monitor use of material to minimize loss, misuse and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
- Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids and maintain required inventory records.
- Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering and art history
- Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities.
- Accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
- Provide Instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts, appreciation and ability to make qualitative judgments about arts.
- Understand the versatility of pencils, pens, charcoal brushes, watercolors, acrylic paints, oil paints, and other art material.
- Understanding of the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media technique
- Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students' art work for the school.
- Participate in curriculum development programs, such as after school art club. Qualifications
- Understanding of art theory and art history
- Ability to teach art to the students
- Excellent artistic skills
- An art portfolio showing a range of art samples in various mediums. Other
- Complete daily student attendance, enter grades, complete progress reports online
- Complete weekly quiz trackers for collecting data on students' academic progress.
- Attend quarterly academic data meetings to discuss students' academic data
- Talk to parents about their children's progress
- Document parent teacher communication
- Attend weekly professional development trainings
- Maintain required paperwork for individual student files, attendance, safety drills, incident reports, and other necessary records. Skills/Personal Attributes
- Artistic skills
- Demonstrated art abilities and knowledge of various art techniques.
- Desire to teach elementary and secondary school-aged students and ability to adapt to their developmental status
- Ability to use technology i.e. smart boards, knowledge of Microsoft office
- Ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, art demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be able to traverse school facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
