The purpose of a K-12 art instructor is to provide assigned schools with a coordinated art program aimed at expanding student appreciation of art as well as art education techniques.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid K-12 Art Education Certificate or equivalent and demonstrated skills and talents in both formal and informal art media.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Develop, implement, and coordinate a comprehensive art curriculum that provides rich, varied experiences while aligning with district curriculum and state learning standards. Stay informed about current trends, research-based practices, and technological innovations in art education through professional development opportunities. Collaborate with other art teachers across the district to plan art lessons and programs that enhance student learning. Assess and document student growth in visual arts through appropriate evaluation strategies, including both formative and summative assessments, portfolios, and exhibitions that demonstrate student learning and program effectiveness. Create opportunities for student art to be displayed and celebrated through physical exhibitions, digital platforms, community partnerships, and school-wide events that highlight student creativity. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles of all students, ensuring equitable access to quality art education. Integrate appropriate technology and digital tools to enhance art creation, presentation, and appreciation in alignment with district technology initiatives. Foster social-emotional learning through art by creating a supportive environment where students can express themselves and develop self-awareness, confidence, and empathy. Manage art supplies, equipment, and classroom environment effectively to ensure safe, productive learning experiences while adhering to district budgetary guidelines. Serve as a resource to the school community by providing expertise for art-related activities, displays, and school-wide cultural initiatives.ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Effectively communicate, verbally and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed. Provide for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.SUPERVISORY DUTIES
Supervise students at all times.MENTAL DEMANDS
An individual who holds this position must have the ability to identify the needs and abilities of individual students and to adapt instructional methods accordingly. The instructor will read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, board policy, administrative procedures and forms, and governmental regulations and guidance. This person should also have the ability to maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or the ability to reason and make appropriate decisions, as well as, solve a variety of problems in many different situations and have strong attention to detail.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, an employee is regularly required to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously, move around the classroom, and read handwritten or printed material.WORK ENVIRONMENT
The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation. Salary and work year will be in accordance with the current teacher salary schedule and the Professional Agreement. Days employed in excess of the established work calendar shall be payable at the employee's regular daily rate.EVALUATION
