Job Description

ART INSTRUCTOR
The School of Art, Music, and Performance at Jones College invites applications for a full-time Instructor of Art with a specialization in Studio Art, particularly Ceramics and Painting. This faculty member will teach studio courses that emphasize creative development, technical skill, and conceptual understanding while supporting a strong foundation in visual arts for students pursuing transfer degrees or personal enrichment. The instructor will also teach sections of Art Appreciation and other art-related courses as needed and contribute to the broader mission of the college through student engagement, collaboration with faculty, and participation in campus activities. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence within the context of a two-year community college and will support the development of students with diverse academic and artistic goals. This is a full-time faculty position with teaching responsibilities during the academic year. Additional responsibilities may include service to the department and college, as well as participation in recruitment, student advising, and arts programming.
Primary Responsibilities:
Teach studio art courses with an emphasis in Ceramics and Painting, including both introductory and intermediate levels as assigned. Teach Art Appreciation and other art-related courses as needed by the department. Develop course materials, assignments, and assessments that promote technical proficiency, creativity, and critical thinking. Maintain and oversee ceramics studio facilities, including equipment, materials, and safety practices. Prepare and evaluate student work and assign grades in accordance with institutional policies. Mentor students pursuing studio art pathways or transfer degrees in the visual arts. Participate in departmental planning, assessment, and curriculum development. Support the presentation of student exhibitions, gallery events, and other arts programming on campus. Engage in student recruitment and retention efforts within the arts programs. Contribute to campus service through committee work and participation in college events.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in art (MFA or MA) with emphasis in Studio Art, Ceramics, Painting, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Collegiate teaching experience in studio art or art history/appreciation courses. Professional experience in gallery education, museum work, or exhibition development. Demonstrated record of artistic practice, exhibitions, or creative scholarship. Experience working with diverse student populations, particularly within a community college setting.

This position reports to the Dean of the School of Art, Music, and Performance.
