Primary Responsibilities:
Plan and implement daily instruction aligned with curriculum standards Design engaging lessons, units, and projects with clear learning objectives communicated to students Differentiate instruction and adapt materials to meet diverse student needs, interests, and learning styles Employ a variety of instructional strategies, including demonstrations, discussions, project-based learning, and hands-on exploration Create a balanced studio program that includes instruction, demonstration, independent work, and inquiry-based learning Foster a classroom environment that promotes inclusion, creativity, empathy, global citizenship, and respect for diverse perspectives Establish strong classroom management and studio routines that support a productive learning environment Integrate technology meaningfully to enhance teaching and student learning Utilize a range of assessments and data to inform instruction and adjust practice as needed Maintain and update curriculum, materials, and instructional resources regularly Support students' social and emotional development through positive relationships and advisory connections Maintain accurate records, grades, and reporting systems in alignment with school procedures and deadlines Communicate effectively and proactively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress Prepare thoughtful conferences and written reports on student learning and growth Plan and supervise curriculum-based field trips and service learning experiences
Studio, School, and Community Engagement:
Collaborate with faculty and departments to plan exhibitions, events, and cross-curricular projects on and off campus Partner with the Musical Director to design and create props and scenery for school productions Encourage student participation in artistic showcases, including Artist of the Month and community art initiatives and competitions (e.g., holiday card selections) Maintain relationships with local and national visual arts organizations to enrich programming and professional practice Represent the school positively within the broader community and contribute to school-wide initiatives
Professional Responsibilities:
Engage in ongoing professional development, including workshops, conferences, and faculty learning opportunities Participate in goal setting and performance review processes with administration Attend faculty, divisional, and departmental meetings and actively contribute to team collaboration Maintain preparedness for instruction, including substitute plans when needed Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement in content knowledge and teaching practice Support colleagues and contribute to a positive, collaborative school culture
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Art Education or related field required; advanced degree preferred Minimum of three years of experience teaching art to children or equivalent experience Strong classroom management and organizational skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated success in professional growth and collaboration Proficiency in a range of art media and techniques
