Position Summary:
Valley Inquiry Charter School is seeking a creative, reflective, and student-centered educator to serve as a part-time Middle Years Program (MYP) Art Teacher for students in grades 6-8. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) Candidate School implementing the Middle Years Program, Valley Inquiry believes the arts are essential to developing creativity, self-expression, critical thinking, cultural understanding, and student agency. The successful candidate will facilitate engaging, inquiry-based visual arts experiences that encourage students to explore artistic processes, develop technical skills, communicate ideas, and reflect on their growth as artists. Through the MYP framework, students will investigate artistic concepts, create original works, respond to artwork, and make meaningful connections between art, culture, and the world around them. This position focuses on visual arts instruction for middle school students and supports the development of a vibrant arts program that encourages creativity, innovation, and personal expression. Position Available Part-Time MYP Art Teacher (Grades 6-8) Total Position:
0.40 FTE Salary Salary range: $43,757.99-$68,218.44 depending on years of teaching experience, licensure, endorsements, education, and contracted hours. Salary will be prorated based on the 0.40 FTE assignment. Essential ResponsibilitiesVisual Arts Instruction Design and facilitate engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with MYP Arts objectives and Oregon Visual Arts Standards. Develop units that encourage creativity, artistic exploration, technical skill development, and conceptual understanding. Utilize adopted curricular resources as a foundation for instruction while designing inquiry-based, concept-driven learning experiences aligned with MYP objectives, global contexts, and the IB philosophy. Support students in developing artistic techniques across a variety of media and artistic processes. Foster student voice, choice, and agency through authentic artistic experiences. Encourage students to communicate ideas, perspectives, and personal experiences through visual art. Help students explore connections between art, culture, history, identity, and contemporary issues. Integrate MYP Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills throughout instruction. Assessment and Student Growth Utilize formative and summative assessment practices aligned with MYP Arts criteria. Provide timely and meaningful feedback that supports artistic growth and student achievement. Support students in self-assessment, reflection, critique, and goal setting. Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement. Utilize assessment data to inform instructional planning and support student growth. Learning Environment and Studio Management Establish a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that encourages creativity, risk-taking, and artistic expression. Maintain an organized and productive art studio environment. Manage art materials, equipment, supplies, and inventory responsibly. Promote safe use of tools, materials, and equipment. Foster a classroom culture that values creativity, collaboration, reflection, and respect. Student Relationships and School Culture Build positive relationships with students that support academic, social, and emotional growth. Implement restorative and proactive approaches to classroom management. Create opportunities for students to share and celebrate their artistic learning. Encourage student confidence, perseverance, and creative problem-solving. Collaboration and Professional Growth Collaborate with MYP colleagues, specialists, support staff, and administrators to strengthen student learning and school culture. Participate in collaborative planning, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and school improvement initiatives as assigned. Engage in ongoing professional development related to visual arts education, IB philosophy, inquiry-based instruction, and adolescent development. Reflect on instructional practices and use feedback to continually improve effectiveness. Family and Community Partnerships Maintain regular communication with families regarding student growth and achievement. Support exhibitions, showcases, and opportunities for students to share their artistic work with families and the broader community. Foster positive partnerships with families and community organizations that support arts education. School Contributions Participate in school-wide activities, exhibitions, service-learning projects, and special events as assigned. Contribute positively to the mission, vision, and culture of Valley Inquiry Charter School. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications:
Required Valid Oregon Teaching License or ability to obtain licensure prior to employment. Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with middle school students. Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and classroom management skills. Preferred Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Visual Arts, Fine Arts, Education, or a related field. Experience teaching middle school visual arts. Experience with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) or other inquiry-based educational models. Experience working with a variety of artistic media and instructional approaches. Experience facilitating student exhibitions, portfolios, or showcase events. Training or experience in culturally responsive teaching and restorative practices. Bilingual or multilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, are highly valued and considered an asset in supporting communication and partnership with families, but are not required. Master's degree or advanced coursework in art, arts education, education, or a related field.
