Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION
Converse University invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor of 3D/Sculpture to teach undergraduate courses. Teaching responsibilities may include 3D Design and sculpture. Qualifications must include a MFA in Sculpture or related field from an accredited institution and skill in the use and application of appropriate traditional and digital technology. A record of artistic or scholarly professional activity and teaching experience are preferred. The successful candidate will work well within a creative and collaborative environment dedicated to a culture of learning and social responsibility. The Department of Art, Design and Letters is located within the School of the Arts and comprised of exceptional multi-disciplined programs in art and interior design. Fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), it is housed in the Milliken Fine Arts Building. At 30,000 square feet, there are designated classrooms in ceramics, sculpture, photography, printmaking, digital media, painting, drawing, and interior design. Converse University is a private, coed liberal arts university. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching:
80% Includes development and delivery of course content within NASAD standards, grading and feedback, maintaining office hours, documenting as required for NASAD and meeting all deadlines for grade entry as required by the Office of the Registrar.
Service:
10% Includes service to the department, school, and university.
Creative Scholarship:
10% Includes professional involvement in the field
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MFA in Sculpture or related field from an accredited institution Demonstrated proficiency in metal fabrication, welding, foundry, mold making / casting processes, and wood shop areas Experience with supervising/enforcing studio safety Strong communication and organizational skills Commitment to student-centered teaching and learning
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior undergraduate teaching experience Experience with digital fabrication (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC) Experience in teaching contemporary approaches to art, creative research, and critical thinking
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated proficiency in metal fabrication, welding, foundry, mold making / casting processes, and wood shop areas. Experience with supervising/enforcing studio safety.
GUIDELINES AND SUPERVISION
This position is supervised by the Chair of the Department of Art, Design and Letters. The Adjunct Instructor of 3D / Sculpture is expected to self-manage their courses including development and delivery of content based on NASAD and CIDA standards as well as following the course description in the academic catalog. Additionally, they are expected to provide feedback, meeting deadlines for grade entry as required by the Office of the Registrar.
