The instructional portion of the position includes teaching three sections each semester as assigned by the Chair and Dean. Courses may include Basic Art, Digital Photography Beginning Drawing, and Introduction to the Visual Arts. Depending on student demand, more advanced art courses may be taught in-load. Office hours per the University policies are also an expectation. The administrative portion of the position includes maintenance of the Bernice Coulter Templeton Art Gallery website; coordination of meetings, classes and events held in the Gallery; serving as the safety coordinator for the Art Studio. The coordinator will also organize an exhibit in the fall semester, and an exhibit in the spring semester. The Coordinator will work with Advancement as needed to assist with any art donations to the University, and advise the archivists on matters related to the University's permanent collection. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teach three sections per semester. Load may include Basic Art, Beginning Drawing, Digital Photography or Introduction to Visual Arts | Weekly 45% Keep regular office hours per University guidelines | Twice Weekly 25% Coordinate one exhibit in the fall and in the spring semesters | Daily 5% Work with Advancement on the evaluation of any art donations to the University | Weekly 5% Work with the Archivists on the permanent collection as needed | Weekly 5% Maintain the Templeton Art Gallery website | Weekly 5% Act as the safety officer of the Gallery | Weekly 5% Coordinate requests for meetings, classes, and events in the Gallery | Weekly 5% Other duties as assigned by the Dean. | As Needed Education, Certifications and/or Licenses MFA in visual arts (any medium) or PhD in Art History Experience Prior classroom teaching experience at the post-secondary level; prior experience in organizing or staging visual art exhibitions. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge (position requirements at entry):
Knowledge of:
• Familiarity with academic policies and procedures of higher education institutions. Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations and laws related to student records. Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures. Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters while complying with FERPA regulations. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to demonstrate and provide excellent service to both the University and the community. LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students, and University employees. Performance of basic software applications. Use of a variety of input devices (voice recorder, camera, etc). Use of productivity tools such as slideshows, posters and multimedia presentations Design and create multimedia (audio, video, text) presentations Development and implementation, with technological tools, of tasks that emphasize cooperation within a structured group or team.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
