Our team of 20+ specialists brings yoga therapy, art, music, pet therapy, and movement programming to inpatient and residential behavioral health populations. Role summary We are seeking a skilled and dependable Art Teacher to facilitate therapeutic art groups in behavioral health hospital settings. You will plan and lead structured art activities — such as painting, drawing, collage, and mixed media — designed to support emotional expression, coping skills, and patient engagement for adult and/or adolescent inpatient populations. Responsibilities Facilitate structured art group sessions (45 min) for inpatient behavioral health populations Plan activities that are therapeutic, engaging, and appropriate for varying acuity levels Set up and break down all art materials; maintain a clean and organized group space Complete required session documentation (attendance, group notes) per facility guidelines Maintain a trauma-informed, safe, and supportive group environment at all times Communicate proactively with the Axthera team lead regarding scheduling, absences, and concerns Collaborate respectfully with hospital clinical and activity therapy staff Adhere to all facility policies including dress code, badge compliance, and HIPAA standards Required qualifications Degree in Fine Arts, art education, art therapy, or a related field Experience facilitating art groups or classes in a clinical, school, community, or therapeutic setting Comfortable working with individuals experiencing mental health or behavioral health challenges Reliable, punctual, and professional — able to maintain composure in an inpatient environment Own reliable transportation to Houston-area hospital locations Preferred qualifications Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or board-certified credential (ATR-BC) Experience in psychiatric, dual-diagnosis, or substance use recovery settings Knowledge of trauma-informed facilitation principles Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus Compensation & schedule Competitive per-session contractor rate (discussed at interview) Flexible scheduling — afternoons and/or weekends available 1099 independent contractor agreement Opportunity for consistent recurring shifts across multiple facilities How to apply Submit your resume and a brief note describing your experience leading art groups.
