Job Description

The mission of The Sharon Academy is to nurture intelligent, independent and creative thinking in a small school community, awakening students to their immense potential and the difference they can make in the world.

High School General Art Teacher.40 FTE2025-2026The Sharon Academy High School is seeking a qualified, part-time general art teacher. This role includes teaching a Studio art class: M 2:00-3:15, T/TH 12:30-1:30, and art elective courses on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:30-3:30. This role includes some additional time spent in department and/or in-service meetings throughout the year. The role includes teaching an integrated, proficiency-based curriculum. We are seeking a candidate who is eager to fulfill responsibilities in the following areas: Teaching Employ innovative, proficiency-based practices of teaching and assessment.

Work with the Director of Visual Arts to design art curriculum for 9-12th grade. Update the learning management system, keep grade data current to within two weeks, comment on student progress regularly, and generate report cards and comments for all students each year.

Stay up to date on current 504s, Individual Education Plans (IEP), and special needs and accommodations of relevant students; adjust curriculum, teaching and assignments accordingly. Support the schools commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice work.
Teaching Qualifications:
Teachers must hold a teaching license or be qualified, through education and/or experience, to teach the subject(s) for which they are hired to teach. Such qualifications must be approved by the Independent School Consultant at the Vermont Agency of Education.

Student SupportCommunicate regularly with parents; meeting as necessary.

All Faculty are Mandatory Reporters as required by the state of Vermont.

Independent School CultureSupport the mission of The Sharon Academy.

Participate in the high school musical Interim at least to the contracted percentage, excluding hourly employees.

Attend the beginning of the year potluck, parent information nights, a minimum of one evening Interim performance, and graduation.

Actively help in keeping the school a clean, healthy, and safe environment.

Collaboration and PlanningMeet with other teachers, as necessary, to coordinate curriculum or discuss student concerns,Attend staff meetings and department meetings as scheduled and participate in faculty meetings and in-service days to the contracted percentage.
