Posting Details Position Information Position Title Adjunct Instructor, ESL - Fairbury - PTT Department Adult Education Location College Wide Job Category Faculty Job Type PT Posting Number 02151 Position End Date Position Summary Information General Description of Position Under the general direction and supervision of the Assistant Director of Adult Education, the Adjunct Instructor, ESL is responsible for supporting students' English as a Second Language development from true beginner to career/college-ready academic levels through whole-class and/or online instruction. The Adjunct Instructor, ESL is responsible for supporting up to 16 ESL students as they use in-class, text-based, and/or online materials to build English language skills in leveled ESL classes. They create lesson plans, introduce students to text-based and online study programs, conduct high-quality, interactive face-to-face and/or remote classes, use data from regular measurements of students' progress to guide instruction, and support students in and out of class to achieve learning goals. This is a part-time temporary position, requiring 6-10 hours/week. Paid training is available and required. Essential Functions Provide course expectations to all students upon student entry into the class. Develop and implement ESL classes based on students' assessment results, ESL best practices, SCC ESL program standards, and student goals for study. Use Data from CASAS pre-measurement of skills and post-measurement of progress to guide students to targeted individualized supports, such as text-based and online materials. Support students with appropriate advice regarding studies and learning. Advise students about materials and information that may be useful to their English language improvement, including course level adjustments, additional English language learning resources, pursuing post-secondary study, work preparation, and strategies for improving English language skills. Maintain accurate records and participate in supporting program requirements. Complete student attendance in a timely manner. Instruct students on how to keep accurate records, such as student attendance sign-in sheets. Assist in student retention efforts. Support program progress review efforts and encourage students to participate in them. Manage all student onboarding requirements: pre- and post-assessment; intake process; and SCC class registration process. Maintain and report a minimum of 8 hours of professional development annually. Complete state- and program- required professional development. Attend mandatory program in-service and meetings. Read and act upon program emails and meetings with updates and information. Promote a Culture of Belonging Support and promote an environment of belonging w all students, faculty members, and college employees feel weed, valued, and empowered to contribute. Foster amunity w each individual and their varied perspectives enrich the educational experience and create a safe and respectful environment. Support the College's policies and programming related to access, fair employment, and equal opportunities for all. Marginal Functions May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge about instructing non-native speakers of English Knowledge of working in multi-lingual, multi-level classes Use ofputers, such as online learning programs, email, d digital information,puter-aided instruction, and audio-visualmunication software Ability tomunicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone. Ability to lift and carry up to (50) fifty pounds for short distances, and move tables, chairs, and media equipment. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable amodation, using some otherbination of skills and abilities. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in any field. Instructional experience.
