Job Summary Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) Instructors for evening classes. This position provides instruction for vocational or occupational subjects at the post-secondary level.

  • Teaches ESOL at levelsranging from 1-5 following test results using the CELSA exam. Teaches classes in person, takes attendance, assigns and gives feedback on homework, grade tests, assesses and documents students' progress, learns and uses the course web-based learning management system (LMS) Canvas and the online Student Information System (SIS) 30%
  • Provides instruction and conducts training sessions Assists in development of lessons, assessments, and selection of course materials including the available materials shared from Community Education Staff and the resource room 10%
  • Develops and administers testing (quizzes, conversations, etc.) 10%
  • Plans, organizes, and prepares equipment and materials for instructional purposes Uses CANVAS or other methods to present learning materials, lessons, tests, and other related material to reinforce learning, support achievement of learning outcomes 10%
  • Supervises and monitors student use of tools and/or equipment.
Prepares and distributes instructional and study materials for students. Plans, reviews and evaluates student work assignments; records student progress. Observes, prepares, maintains, and evaluates student work to determine progress; provides feedback and coaching Minimum Qualifications 1. High School Diploma or GED and four years of experience in area of assignment (There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED) 2. English as a Second Language 3. English as a Foreign Language 4. English to Speakers of Other Languages 5. English as a Second Language 6. English Language Learning 7. Applied Linguistics 8. Related programs requiring the use/level of proficiency, in a second language. Desired Qualifications Experience teaching adult learners Experience teaching writing, reading, listening, and speaking to adults in ESL classes Knowledge of active learning techniques Knowledge of using technology in second language instruction
