Spanish Teacher (Grades 5-8) Responsibilities This is a part time, 0.5 FTE position. Teach Spanish to students in grades 5-8 at a range of proficiency levels. Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons grounded in best practices for world language instruction. Use TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) and other comprehensible input strategies as a primary approach to support natural language acquisition through storytelling, repetition, and meaningful interaction. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning styles, abilities, and readiness levels. Create a positive, student-centered classroom culture that is engaging, inclusive, and well-managed. Foster respect for diverse perspectives and cultures while helping students develop global awareness and empathy. Communicate regularly and effectively with students, families, and colleagues to support student progress. Participate in professional development, remain open to innovation, and reflect on instructional practices. Contribute to school events and initiatives that support the school's mission and growth. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree and teaching credential preferred (Education, Spanish, or related field). Experience teaching middle school in a student-centered environment. Experience with TPRS and/or other comprehensible input methods strongly preferred. Ability to design engaging lessons using best practices in Spanish instruction. Experience with inquiry and project-based learning is a plus. Strong collaboration, communication, and relationship-building skills. Comfortable integrating technology. Commitment to professional growth and leadership. Requirements Bilingual in Spanish and English. Strong understanding of Spanish language structure and acquisition. Ability to engage students through interactive, communicative teaching. Knowledge of grammar within a proficiency-based framework.
Salary Range:
$27,000-$30,000 depending on experience and special training Work Environment and Physical Requirements Required to lift and carry up to a maximum of 25 lbs., in a correct manner consistent with the safety policy. Occasionally required to use hands to fingers, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus. May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day. Required to sit while operating word processing equipment for approximately 6-8 hours daily, repetitive motion for typing and other keystroke needs.
