The San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) Arts & Humanities Division seeks an innovative faculty member with a demonstrated commitment to student success for a full-time tenure track position. The successful candidate will show familiarity with most of the following: Distance Education, along with experience working with diverse populations and heritage Spanish speakers. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to integrating equity and inclusion in all aspects of their work. The successful candidate may teach courses in Spanish, including traditional and distance education formats. The successful candidate will also work with students on an individual basis during office hours, serve on various departmental and college-wide committees, work with the chair of the Modern Languages department to assist in advisement with matters pertaining to Spanish. The successful candidate will utilize recognized methodologies that support student success and be part of an engaged campus community.
Representative Duties:
The following duties are typical of those performed by faculty in this classification. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.
  • Participate in department, division and campus meetings and activities.
  • Maintain regular office hours.
  • Participate in assessment, curriculum, and program review processes.
  • Participate in regular professional development activity.
  • Develop and implement curriculum for Spanish and degree related courses
  • Develop and implement Zero-Cost Textbook resources for Spanish courses
  • Regularly analyze student learning outcomes and dis-aggregated student success data in support of department reporting and growth
  • Maintain a schedule of course offerings at various times and days in response to student and scheduling needs
  • Provide instruction at on-site and dual enrollment locations and in the online environment
  • Utilize instructional software and digital platforms as appropriate for Spanish language courses
  • Participate in and facilitate outreach activities with internal and external partners
  • Provide instruction in all levels of Spanish course offerings from beginning to intermediate and culture related courses
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
(To be specified in accordance with California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office Faculty Minimum Qualifications) Master's in Spanish OR Bachelor's in Spanish AND Master's in another language or linguistics OR https://sbccd.edu/district-services/human-resources/documents/equivalency-processs-and-form-2024.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Two years of college-level Spanish teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to support a diverse student population through culturally responsive instruction.
  • Experience with instruction across a variety of platforms and modalities: traditional, online synchronous, online asynchronous, and hybrid.
  • Minimum of two years of experience and expertise in online teaching. Employment Requirements The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:

  • Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution. (for positions with higher education requirement)
