Full Job Description EL/ESL Teacher Job Description LAMB's Mission:
To create a self-directed learning environment in which children build a foundation of knowledge essential for a lifetime of learning while developing bi-literacy in English and Spanish. LAMB offers a unique model of bilingual Montessori public education to diverse, urban families in the Nation's Capital. LAMB serves children in PK3 through 5 th grade and is a community that embraces our active parent community and promotes peace and equality for all. Basic Qualifications Bachelor /Master Degree in Education, TESOL, or related field ESL/ELL experience Knowledge of WIDA standards and language acquisition Rubrics Experience with diverse learners, including students with IEPs Strong collaboration and communication skills Bilingual (Spanish/English preferred) Elementary bilingual teaching experience preferred Duties and Responsibilities Provides instruction and support to Pre-Kindergarten - 5th grade students in the ELL Program. Ability to work with students of various abilities, including those with various identified exceptionalities; Ability to work in a multicultural, bilingual environment
Administer Assessments :
Help administer language proficiency and academic tests to determine student placement, monitor progress, and decide when students should exit the EL program.
Develop Language Support Plans:
Assist in creating language acquisition support plans (ELL plans) for all EL students and collaborate with classroom teachers to implement these plans. Participate in planning support for dually identified students (sped/ell).
Support Differentiated Instruction:
Work with classroom teachers to differentiate instruction for second language learners. Provide ELL instruction through small groups and one-on-one pull-out/push-in services aligned with Montessori work cycles. Integrate language objectives (WIDA) with content learning across subject areas Design and implement hands-on, language-rich lessons using Montessori materials, realia, visuals, and repetition. Use Varied Teaching Strategies; Employ a range of instructional techniques and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students, including whole group co-teaching, small-group, or individual instruction. Assist in maintaining a profile summary of each student's achievements and progress. Build Relationships with
Families :
Establish strong relationships with EL parents, including non-English speakers. Adaptability in
Teaching Assignments:
Be flexible with teaching assignments as needed within the school setting.
Data Collection and Reporting:
Support the gathering and reporting of data for state, Department of Education, census, grant applications, and other required reports. Analyze data from multiple sources (WIDA, NWEA, classroom assessments) to inform instruction. Monitor student progress using WIDA Can Do descriptors and ELD (English Language Development) rubrics. Maintain accurate documentation of student language development and services.
School-Wide Contribution:
Contribute to the overall success and productivity of the school.
Professional Development:
Participate and support the organization of staff development, in-service activities, and staff meetings as required.
Compliance Meetings:
Attend IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and compliance with state or federal laws.
Attend School Events:
Participate in traditional school-sponsored activities such as back-to-school night, open house, and other events typically attended by teachers, even if outside regular school hours.
