Open Until Filled Woodbridge School District is accepting applications for a Multilingual (ESOL) teacher at WHS. This is a full-time, 10-month, benefit-eligible teaching position.
JOB SUMMARY
The MLL teacher will design and implement engaging lessons that help students develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. This role involves working closely with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, helping them navigate the high school curriculum while building their language skills. The ideal candidate will be committed to creating an inclusive classroom environment, collaborating with other teachers to provide accommodations, and supporting students in their overall academic success. The MLL teacher will also work with families and staff to promote the academic, social, and emotional growth of MLL students.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must hold or be eligible for Teacher of English Learners certification for State of Delaware Additional certification in secondary education or a specific subject area (e.g., English, Social Studies) preferred Demonstrated proficiency in Spanish (oral and written) preferred Previous experience teaching Multilingual Language Learners (MLLs) at the high school level, or in a similar educational setting is highly preferred Experience working with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, particularly those with limited English proficiency Experience differentiating instruction and supporting students with varying language levels and academic needs
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In-depth knowledge of second language acquisition theories and best practices for language development. Familiarity with language assessment tools and strategies for evaluating and tracking MLL progress. Strong understanding of state and federal regulations related to Multilingual Language Learners (e.g., English Language Proficiency standards). Ability to design and implement differentiated lessons and accommodations to meet the needs of multilingual learners at various levels of English proficiency. Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices and strategies for fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to create a safe and positive learning environment for diverse learners. Ability to use various instructional strategies, such as scaffolding, cooperative learning, and visual aids, to support language acquisition. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with students, parents, and staff effectively. Ability to provide clear instructions and explanations for students with limited English proficiency. Proficiency in additional languages is highly valued but not required. Comfortable using educational technology and digital tools to enhance learning and engage students. Ability to integrate multimedia resources, language apps, and online platforms to support language development and learning. Strong collaboration skills to work with general education teachers, counselors, and administrators to support multilingual learners' academic success. Ability to collaborate with colleagues to create and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or language support plans for students. Understanding and respect for cultural diversity, with a commitment to promoting inclusivity in the classroom. Ability to address students' social, emotional, and cultural needs while supporting their academic development. Experience using formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, identify areas of improvement, and adjust instruction accordingly. Ability to interpret language proficiency test results and provide targeted interventions to support student growth. Commitment to ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in second language acquisition and multilingual education. Willingness to attend workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, diverse school environment. Flexibility and adaptability in addressing the varied academic, social, and emotional needs of multilingual learners. Other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS
This is a 10-month position based on a 188-day annual contract. Employees are expected to work 7.5 hours per day, consistent with the established school and district schedules. Responsibilities may include duties beyond instructional time, such as meetings, professional development, and school-related events. Employees are expected to maintain regular attendance, fulfill all assigned responsibilities, and demonstrate flexibility to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the district.
