Job Description
General Summary:
TheREACH ESOL
Teacher provides specialized English language instruction and academic support to English Learners (ELs) while serving as an advisor and advocate for a designated group of students. This role supports language acquisition, academic success, and social-emotional development in alignment with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) and WIDA English Language Development Standards. The ideal candidate is culturally responsive, student-centered, and committed to equity and access within a charter school environment. Essential Functions include, but are not limited to, the following: Instructional Responsibilities Instruct English Learners with English Language Development support in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening, using various teaching methods, audiovisual aids and other materials. Provide direct ESOL instruction aligned to Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) and WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards. Manages caseload of targeted students (approximately 30-35) and provides weekly interventions and instruction, as well as assessing and collaborating with other teachers and the school leadership team the academic progress of each student on the caseload. Prepares outline for course of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school. Provides pull-out as needed and additional support to Long Term English Learners (LTELs) for English language development. Facilitates professional learning communities to support the work of teachers by providing them theoretically grounded pedagogy and interventions for English Language Learners. Track enrollment and student progress on a monthly basis and create action plans based on student needs. Identify students who need to be tested and follow up on appropriate assessment and classification for each student. Contribute to an individualized academic plan for each ESOL student. Maintain current ACCESS testing results and monitor progress thereof. Performs other administrative functions and duties as assigned. Advisory Responsibilities Serve as an Advisor to a group of students, meeting regularly during scheduled advisory periods. Build strong, supportive relationships with assigned students and serve as a primary adult advocate at school. Monitor academic performance, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional well-being of advisees. Support students with goal setting, organization, time management, and self-advocacy skills. Facilitate advisory lessons focused on college and career readiness, character development, and life skills. Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and support needs. Collaborate with counselors, administrators, other teachers, and support staff to address student needs and interventions.Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
Experience working with second language learners and in second language acquisition. Ability to prepare and execute curriculum. Ability to work independently and efficiently, exercising reasonable judgment, in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with minimal supervision. Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate problem-solving skills, while maintaining courtesy, professionalism, and a customer service attitude. Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Working knowledge of MS Office and database management.Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Valid or eligible Georgia teaching certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) with one of the following: ESOL Endorsement (P-12), OR Eligibility to obtain the ESOL Endorsement within a designated timeframe as required by GaPSC and GaDOE. Knowledge ofWIDA ELD
Standards and Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). Ability to meet all Georgia background check and employment eligibility requirements. Preferred experience teaching English Learners at the secondary (high school) level. Preferred experience working in a charter school or non-traditional educational setting. Preferred experience with Title III compliance, ACCESS for ELLs administration, and EL documentation. Preferred bilingual or multilingual proficiency.Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and move throughout the building to observe classrooms and activities. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally (books, materials, equipment). Work may include occasional evening or weekend hours for events, meetings, or emergencies.Job Type:
