Principal Position Summary The High School ESOL Teacher provides instruction and support to English Learners (ELs) to develop English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while helping students access grade-level academic content. The teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, administrators, families, and support staff to ensure English Learners achieve academic success and meet state and district standards. Will also teach one segment of English. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement engaging ESOL lessons aligned with state language proficiency standards and district curriculum. Assess students' English language proficiency and academic needs using formal and informal assessments. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse language, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Support students in developing reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English. Collaborate with content-area teachers to provide accommodations and instructional strategies for English Learners. Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of assessments, grades, and language development. Participate in eligibility determination, placement, and annual review processes for English Learners. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and educational needs. Foster an inclusive, culturally responsive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and achievement. Utilize technology and instructional resources to enhance language acquisition and academic learning. Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and district trainings related to ESOL instruction and compliance. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding services for English Learners. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Linguistics, TESOL, or a related field. Valid state teaching certification. ESOL endorsement, certification, or eligibility to obtain certification. Knowledge of second-language acquisition theories and instructional best practices. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Preferred Experience teaching English Learners at the secondary level. Bilingual or multilingual proficiency. Experience with sheltered instruction models such as SIOP or similar frameworks. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Understanding of language acquisition and culturally responsive teaching practices. Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly. Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Proficiency with educational technology and learning management systems. Strong organizational and documentation skills.
