Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Shape the learning experience for junior high students as a bilingual special education teacher, utilizing both English and Spanish language skills. This contract position begins in August 2026, extending through early June 2027, with a schedule of 33.75 hours per week. Situated in a junior high environment near Calumet City, IL, you will work directly with a class of 20 or fewer students, ensuring a focused and personalized approach to instruction.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Active Illinois Special Education teaching licensure required Demonstrated fluency in both English and Spanish Proven experience with middle school or high school student populations Strong history of career consistency, showcasing commitment to educational settings Track record of prioritizing students' needs over rigid adherence to curriculum Background in adapting lessons and approaches for individualized education plans (IEPs) Previous experience with diverse cultural backgrounds considered a plus
Core Responsibilities:
Deliver instruction in both Spanish and English to students in grades 6th through 8th Develop and implement individualized education plans targeting academic and emotional growth Maintain a supportive, inclusive classroom environment with a student-first mindset Collaborate closely with school staff, support teams, and families to maximize student success Document progress, communicate ongoing needs, and adjust strategies as necessary Foster a classroom culture centered on growth and engagement for every learner
