Position:
The Spanish Immersion Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Spanish that supports both academic achievement and language acquisition. This role fosters a student-centered learning environment where all learners are supported in developing bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural understanding. The teacher implements district-approved curriculum and immersion strategies, using a variety of instructional methods to meet diverse student needs. Through ongoing assessment and data analysis, the teacher monitors student progress and adjusts instruction to ensure equitable outcomes for all students.
Qualifications:
Possess or be eligible to possess a valid Delaware teaching certification as: Elementary Teacher in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1521 AND World Language Teacher in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1565 , OR Elementary Dual Language Immersion Teacher in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1568 OR Secondary Content Teacher AND World Language Teacher in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1565 .
Performance Responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality instruction in Spanish aligned to district curriculum, state standards, and immersion program expectations, ensuring students develop proficiency in both language and academic content. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district. Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior, fostering a respectful, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to support language acquisition and content mastery, consistent with the physical space and the diverse needs and abilities of students. Utilize research-based immersion strategies to support language development, including differentiation, scaffolding, and opportunities for authentic communication. Strive to implement through instruction and action the district's philosophy of education, as well as established instructional goals and objectives. Continuously improve professional practice by implementing current, evidence-based instructional strategies and participating in ongoing professional learning. Use student data to drive instructional decisions, monitor progress, and adjust teaching practices to ensure equitable outcomes for all learners. Evaluate student progress on a regular basis using formal and informal assessments, and provide timely, meaningful feedback to students and families. Maintain accurate, complete, and compliant records in accordance with district policies, administrative regulations, and state and federal requirements. Collaborate with Spanish immersion colleagues and grade-level teams to plan instruction, align curriculum, and share best practices that support student success. Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze data, reflect on instructional practices, and improve student outcomes. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents regarding academic progress, language development, and behavioral expectations. Make provisions to be available to students and families for education-related purposes outside the instructional day under reasonable terms. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Establish and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with colleagues, administrators, and support staff. Participate in required training and professional development as mandated by the Delaware Department of Education and the district. Engage in professional growth activities to strengthen instructional practice and language proficiency. Perform other duties as assigned by school or district administration.
Terms of Employment:
Ten-month (10) full-time employee.

Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually according to the Board's policy on professional personnel evaluation.
