JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of authorized administrators shall: Teach skills and knowledge in foreign language instruction to secondary pupils utilizing course of study adopted by the Westfield Public Schools and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content. Modern foreign language teachers (world languages) teach aural comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials consistent with the philosophy and curriculum of the Westfield Public Schools. Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Develop pupil understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where the studies language is spoken. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. Evaluate each pupil's progress in aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing the foreign language in relationship to the level being taught. Select and requisition books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records. Identify pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, school policy and administrative regulations. Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday. Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs. Work cooperatively with all aspects of the school administrative team/faculty and citizens to insure the highest quality of educational programs. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected growth activities, such as foreign language workshops. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.
REPORTS TO
Building PrincipalSalary and terms of employment will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit A contract. Salary placement will be based on information contained in the application as submitted.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation. This position subject to funding.
