TITLE:
Long-Term Substitute ESOL Teacher (April-June 2026)•Talbot Community School
POSITION OVERVIEW
Portland Public Schools is seeking a skilled ESOL teacher at Talbot for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year (approx.
dates of coverage:
April 27-June 22). This teacher will be instrumental in providing targeted multilingual instruction and intervention, analyzing data and using progress monitoring tools and building relationships. A key component of this role is communicating and collaborating with classroom teachers sharing goals, progress monitoring updates and celebrating progress. Provide and support rigorous and appropriate instruction aligned with the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and the Common Core to meet grade level expectations for ESOL students, including newcomers: Collaborate with general education teachers to enhance acquisition of English in all language domains necessary to make progress in general education content classes Use data to inform instruction and programming supports for ESOL students Leverage knowledge and experience with the cultures and languages of our students and families Build relationships with multilingual families Participate in staff development as applicable
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE FOR BOTH POSITIONS
Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of education from an accredited college or university; Master's degree preferred Successful track record as a teacher and/or interventionist [Preferred] Experience with Illustrative Mathematics Curriculum, Building Fact Fluency, other research-based curricula, CKLA, Expeditionary Learning
CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization (more info) Maine State Teacher Certificate with 660 Endorsement (English Language Learner, PK-12) (more info)
