Coloma Community Schools Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Fluent in ASL) Teacher 26-27 School Yea r
Position Overview:
Coloma Community Schools is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and certified Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher who is fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
Key Responsibilities:
Assist student(s) in acquiring ASL. Use appropriate technology and tools to support communication access and student accommodations. Provide collaborative feedback to the IEP team, as requested. Adhere to student's IEP and support implementation of individualized services and goals. Maintain lesson plans and progress monitoring Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards at all times. Foster a collaborative and positive team environment among educators and service providers.
Required Qualifications:
Degree or coursework in an educationally related field. One of the following is required (or in progress): Minimum - Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an SL (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) endorsement. A ZA (Early Childhood) endorsement is preferred.
Preferred Knowledge & Skills:
Strong understanding of the implications of deafness on childhood development. Ability to support ASL language development in students. Familiarity with special education practices, Comfortable using technology for organization, communication, and planning. Demonstrated success in special education or support service working with students with D/HH. Ability to communicate informational ideas in spoken, written and American Sign Language for clear understanding. Ability to work well with students, staff and parents. Ability to demonstrate mature judgment and moral and ethical behavior. Ability to project a positive outlook, manner and appearance. Willingness to collaborate and follow Coloma's district policies and procedures.
