SPANISH TEACHER

(Long-term Substitute) 2026/2027

SCHOOL YEAR Job Summary :

University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy is seeking an outstanding, highly qualified substitute Spanish teacher to cover for maternity leave at the end of the 2025-26 school year and/or beginning of the 2026-27 school year. Responsibilities include the intellectual formation of students by teaching reading, writing, listening, speaking, and culture in the Spanish language, designing engaging student-centered lesson plans, and creating innovative assessments. The ideal candidate must be a relationship builder, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies, and model what it looks like to be a reflective and lifelong learner.

Compensation :

$175 per day when school is in session.

Temporary, Full-time Duties and Performance Responsibilities :

The teacher's day consists of five (5) teaching periods, one (1) lunch period, one (1) homeroom period, one (1) period given to prefecting or other School duty as the Principal or his assistant may assign, and at least one (1) period unencumbered by instructional or supervisory responsibilities to provide time for planning, student conferences, preparation for effective teaching and attention to major program improvement and innovation. The Teacher's services shall include the preparation and correction of examinations, proctoring, and substitution. Also included are the customary conferences with students and parents; individual guidance of students; service on faculty committees; active service in studying departmental and School problems; preparation of syllabi; attendance at commencement, faculty meetings and other School functions; and such other professional services as in the judgment of the Principal, the needs of the School shall require. Faculty members are expected to participate in appropriate professional development activities in order to stay current in their assigned teaching fields, program and discipline. Attendance at professional development days as determined by the Principal is mandatory. Professional development days may be scheduled prior to the first day of classes and during the school year.

Qualifications and Experience :

A Bachelor's degree in the subject area and Michigan teaching certification with an endorsement in World Language (FA-FS) are required. Master's degree preferred. Classroom teaching experience preferred. U of D Jesuit partners with Clarkston Community Schools for Shared Services. The successful candidate must be willing to participate in Shared Services as a condition of employment. Position will be held at U of D Jesuit.

Passion and competency to engage students in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum. Ability to effectively utilize digital applications and educational technology software for a student-centered learning model and varied instructional strategies. Collaborative nature in teaching, curriculum development, and community engagement to foster positive working relationships with students and faculty. Ability to implement policy and procedure as well as a commitment to professional development Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Physical Working Conditions :

Must be able to lift light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (10 to 20 pounds). Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Working Environment :

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
